We took the Sony A100 digital SLR camera out at night to repeat the image noise tests.
For these night time exposures the A100 was tripod mounted and the self-timer used to trigger the shot. Exposure time was 6 seconds, with the aperture and ISo varied to provide the same effective exposure. We shot both with and without the camera’s noise reduction feature enabled. The standard kit lens was used.
The images below are 100% sections from the center of the image of the RAW file.
The RAW files for the 100, 400 and 1600ISO tests are available for download from the camera test page on DIMi.
Daytime test results can be viewed here.

Noise is pretty well controlled on this camera, considering its resolution. Noise reduction does seem to work well enough to leave on with this camera.
