We provide some noise tests of the E-300 shot in daytime, along with the RAW files for people to examine themselves.
We test the Olympus E-300 for noise in daytime lighting.
The RAW files for these images are available on the special digital camera section of the site for download so that you can examine the images yourself.
These
images were shot using Olympus’ 14-45mm f3.5-5.6 lens, at a focal length of 31mm (actual, 62mm in 35mm equivalent terms) in Program mode,
and with the starting exposure (100ISO) of 1/100 second @f5.6. Since
these were noise tests it was not felt necessary to keep the aperture
fixed.
The JPEG images below were prepared by converting the RAW files to TIFFs using Olympus software and then cropping and saving to minimally compress JPEGs in Photoshop.
100ISO
200ISO
400ISO
800ISO
1600ISO
You can see that noise is very nicely controlled through to 400ISO, becomes noticable at 800ISO and quite heavy at 1600ISO. Given the size of the image sensor, this is a great performance.
