We put the Nikon D200 through its paces for image noise as part of a comparison with the Canon 350D / Rebel XT.
In
this test we shot with a tripod mounted Nikon D200 with the Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR Macro shooting at 100mm.

sections of all the RAW images that were used to prepare the JPEGs

Note that these images are RAW from the camera converted in Adobe’s Lightroom.
These are 200% zoom ins on the center section of each image.

We can see that noise is very well controlled through 400ISO and steadily gets worse from there.
