We conclude our tests of the Nikon D80 digital SLR camera for noise with daytime shots.
We finish up our tests of the Nikon D80 digital SLR camera with daytime tests.
Two series of tests were made. The RAW (NEF) files for these are available on the DIMi Camera Test page.
Below are minimal compression JPEG files for one of the tests. These are 100% crops from the center of the image, shot in daylight with an exposure of 1/200 of a second for the 100ISO shot.
100ISO
200ISO
400ISO
800ISO
1600ISO
3200ISO
As you can see from these images, noise is, in daylight, quite low from 100ISO to 800ISO. This is a different conclusion to that I came to for the D80 at night and in the dark frame images. To me this again confirms that camera noise assessments, when it comes to practical shooting situations, can vary significantly depending on the situation. Personally I find this more meaningful even though annoyingly variable, because we do not shoot in the laboratory. So I would rather have an idea of how the camera may shoot in real situations. However I can understand that many might come to a different conclusion. For such people they should consult the dark frame images.
