If you want to understand how to do inkjet transfers there is no better way than this DVD.
Inkjet Transfer Techniques DVD
Gelatin and Gel Transfer Processes for Alternative Photography and Fine Art
DVD # 1
By Bonny Pierce Lhotka
Digital Art Studio Seminars LLC
ISBN: 978-0-615-23942-2
Following on from the stunningly successful Digital Art Studio book that she co-authored, Bonny has now begun a DVD series that explore the wonderful techniques that she uses to take digital prints to a hand crafted and individual point. Over the last week or so I’ve been enjoying a pre-release version of the DVD.
The two-hour DVD is divided into the following sections:
Introduction
Welcome
- Transfer Film for Pigment Inks
- Ingredients for All Recipes
- Basic Tools
Processes
- White Marble Fresco
- Gelatin Glaze Layered Fresco
- Alcohol Gel Transfer
- Gelatin Acrylic Parchment Skin
- Gelatin Acrylic Paint Transfer
- White Fresco Distressed Paint Transfer
- Salvaging a Custom Substrate
- Postcoats
- Gelatin Glaze Postcoat
This is a fantastic way to explore these processes. It is better than a book because so many of these processes respond to your subtle (and not so subtle) interactions and this is best seen either in the flesh or in video. While a real workshop or seminar is probably better, this has the great benefit of allowing you to go back and watch sections again as you want.
The processes covered are pretty straightforward and Bonny certainly makes them easy to understand and leaves you with confidence that you can do them yourself. The great benefit of the video format is that you get to see just how forgiving these processes are and that measurements don’t have to be made accurate to the last gram. The video and sound is of excellent quality and you get a good mix of closeup and overall coverage.
Frankly I can’t wait for the next two DVD’s in the series.
If you have an interest in some of the processes in the Digital Art Studio book then I would definitely add this DVD to your library. I think you are much more likely to give it a go after watching this.
Very highly recommended. The DVD is available from Amazon, see below
