We test the Canon 400D/Rebel XTi for long exposure image noise.
The RAW files for this and the other tests are available from our Camera Test page.
The
below JPEGs are 100% crops (i.e. the actual pixels) from the center of
the image prepared from the RAW file with no sharpening, noise
reduction or exposure adjustment done through Adobe Camera RAW and
Photoshop.
Please
note also that these are the worse case noise levels you should see. In
practice all images, even from RAW, will have some noise reduction
applied to them in the conversion process.
Don’t forget our matching article, Canon 400D/Rebel XTi Daytime Noise Tests
Night tests with our usual subject matter:
100ISO NR off 8 sec f4
100ISO NR on
200ISO NR off 8 sec f5.6
200ISO NR on
400ISO NR off 8 sec f8
400ISO NR on
800ISO NR off 8 sec f11
800ISO NR on
1600ISO NR off 8 sec f16
1600ISO NR on
As is normally the case, there seems little benefit from having noise reduction turned on.
