Panasonic FZ50 Digital Camera Image Stabilization Test

A part of our testing of the Panasonic FZ50 digital camera we examine the effectiveness of the image stabilization system.
The results below represent a typical response across a range of tests that we did.
Note that your milage may differ. Everyone holds a camera differently, everyone has a difference stance and everyone’s hands shake differently.

Below are JPEGs of a 100% section from the center of the image from the RAW files which were shot. In all the pairings below, that on the left is with image stabilization turned OFF, that on the right has image stabilization turned off.

Focal length was 420mm.

Consistently in the tests I did I found I was getting about one stop of extra exposure range, occassionally as much as two, over what I could do with the image stabilization turned off.
