Benoit Mandelbrot Dies

The man who probably did more than anyone for establishing fractals as not only an interesting way to create images but also the use of fractal mathematics in many areas of science has died at the age of 85.

His book “The Fractal Geometry of Nature” probably started many of us who use or have used fractal approaches to image creation. I know I came across this book in the mid 1980’s and led me not only to use the Mandelbrot Set as a standard test algorithm in my research work on parallel computation but also led me to experiment with it in art.

He will be missed and remembered.
