The winners of the My Sydney now photo competition, run by the Museum of Sydney and Nikon Australia, have been announced.
Press Release

The winning works reveal three strikingly different, yet equally compelling perspectives on our city.

The Museum of Sydney received more than 500 entries to the competition, which was run in conjunction with its photojournalism exhibition Sydney Now. Budding photographers were invited to submit their favourite Sydney moments for the chance to win one of three Nikon digital camera packages.

The judging panel of Museum of Sydney curator Inara Walden, award-winning Sydney Morning Herald photographer Dean Sewell and Craig Gillespie from Nikon Australia, praised the top 21 finalists for their technical and visual excellence.

‘The challenge of the competition was to capture something of the energy, diversity and wonder found in our city’s everyday lived experience’ says Sydney now curator Inara Walden.

Johnny Barker won second prize for his entry ‘Communion’. Commended for the synchronicity of its composition, the judges described the photo as both engaging and humorous. Johnny wins a Nikon D40x Digital SLR valued at $1399.

Third prize was awarded to Blake Thompson of Darlinghurst. His ‘Manly Ferry ‘ was praised for its artistic treatment of an iconic place and its clever reduction of the ‘big playground of the rich’ to a toy town aesthetic. Blake wins a Nikon D40 + 18-55mm lens valued at $899.
